The first interview with my mother gave me a lot of material and context of how the current program is conducted. After the crit, my primary concern was how I would define my role in this project. As Sven pointed out, I am worried about getting caught up in the ongoing work of the program and losing focus on what I actually want to do. Although, I feel like that is something that I would have to keep adapting to and modifying as I go through the project and not something I can find a solution to right away.
Most of the immediate feedback I received from my peers was expected and valid based on the information they have. A lot of the concerns they raised, I have as my considerations as I work on my project. For example, the using visual or moving images as storytelling, cultural contexts and so on. The next time I present, I would need to highlight these points better and provide the context of the project more clearly.
Sven’s input on alternative ways to present information like using a thumb drive to host a website was interesting and something I definitely will look into. I also realized that I would need to think about the medium soon as I start prototyping and coming up with ideas. I can’t quite visualize right now what my output would be like, without being limited to the current content. I will need to step out of that and really open myself up to different ways this project can go and push myself to explore ways of taking it forward.
I still want to focus on my interest areas of developing interactive tools and want to find a way the project topic and my interest can overlap. I will focus on defining my role further and once I do that I will have a better sense of direction to take the project forward. I also want to start trying to make simple interactive prototypes that can help me at least start to think about how I can bring in my skill set. These would to set the thought process in motion and not necessarily be how I want my project to turn out.
