A Brief Rant on the Future of Interaction Design
Some information and resources on policy and practice here in the USA
Here in the USA an initiative called Erin’s Law has prompted legal mandates in 37 (of 52) states for the teaching of sex abuse prevention curriculum in grades K-12. Legal mandates are pending in 13 more states. Here, dedicated implementation of education policy and curriculum is very much a local matter. So, this requirement across so many states speaks to the compelling nature of this issue.
In my work with Momo (Yumeng Gao), I discovered an exceptionally high-quality and detailed teacher-education resource by the Oregon State Department of Education: Erin’s Law Toolkit (Distance Learning for All) It goes well beyond most published State standards web sites in its coverage of knowledge base information, learning approaches, resources. Importantly, its list of developmentally-appropriate concepts per age-ranges includes some wonderful modelling of activities and lessons – especially for younger children (My Space, Your Space). Perhaps your mom’s team may find this site of interest. Perhaps some of these resources can also prompt your ideas for supportive digital and physical tools.
